Cool Clay Things I Found This Week

🌱 Clay

👀 ICYMI

Ok, let’s dive into today’s main topic.

The Challenge

Last week, I went kinda viral on LinkedIn.

One of my LinkedIn posts got 120K+ impressions and 1.1k+ comments.

It was very exciting to see the numbers going up and to the right.

my last 30 day stats from LinkedIn

But then, reality hit.

I didn’t have a way to deliver my template to all these people.

Here was my situation:

  • When your content goes viral, manual outreach becomes impossible

  • Your promised lead magnet needs to reach hundreds (or thousands) of people

  • You have a goldmine of potential connections but no efficient way to engage

The question consuming my waking thoughts was:

How can I deliver my template to thousands of people AND start conversations?

Why It's Important

We spend so much time creating content to get attention.

But, we don’t think about the systems to capture that demand in a systematic way.

To recap:

  • My post got 100k+ impressions, 400+ reactions, and 1,000+ comments

  • Each commenter represents a potential lead (or subscriber) for me

  • Without a system to capture this attention, I’ve wasted my time and energy

  • My credibility tanks if I don't deliver on promises

What do you think is more valuable?

  1. Letting the moment pass and hoping leads remember you later?

  2. Starting a direct conversation while they're actively interested in your solution?

Social proof is currency, but only if you can convert it to conversations.

Likes and comments don’t pay the bills.

Common Solutions (and why they fail)

Let's be real.

Most people's "strategy" for handling viral LinkedIn posts suck.

Here's what I typically see:

1. The "I'll get to it later" approach. They manually respond to a few comments, get overwhelmed, and abandon ship.

2. The "drop a link and pray" method. They post the asset in a follow-up comment that gets buried instantly.

3. The "DM me" cop-out. They ask people to message them, creating needless friction.

4. The "ghost everyone" technique. They simply never deliver the promised content.

And guess what…

All your leads are cooling off by the second.

A Better Way - Using Clay and La Growth Machine

I decided to stick to tools I already use for my newsletter growth - Clay, La Growth Machine, and LinkedIn Community API.

Here's the exact process I built that's getting me a 29% response rate.

Step 1: Create something worth sharing

Last week, I rebuilt our complex ABM template into a simplified version focused on:

  • Importing named accounts from HubSpot into Clay

  • Monitoring brand mentions on LinkedIn

  • Auto-updating ABM stage from Unaware → Interested → Meeting Booked

in this case, my Hubspot ABM template in Clay

Step 2: Extract & organize commenters with Clay

I created a basic flow in Clay that use LinkedIn Community API to:

  • Get all comments on my LinkedIn post

  • Add commenters to a dedicated Clay table

  • Structure all their profile information

My template to go from LI → Clay → LGM

Step 3: Automate personalized outreach with LGM

  • Check if we're connected and send invites if not

  • Send personalized messages with the template

  • Track response rates (currently at 29%)

My LGM campaign

The Result

No more manual work.

No more forgotten promises.

Just automated, personalized outreach at scale.

Here are my LGM results after launching the campaign a couple days ago.

Next Steps

Want to copy my results? Here's the step-by-step playbook you can copy:

  1. Build a valuable, simple lead magnet

    • Focus on solving ONE specific pain point

    • Make it visually appealing and immediately usable

  2. Set up your data pipeline in Clay

    • Create a table to send LinkedIn post commenters to Clay

    • Enrich with profile data for better personalization

    • I’ll share the template at the bottom

  3. Connect to your outreach tool

    • I use La Growth Machine, but any automation tool works

    • Create templates that deliver value first, then open conversation

    • Always offer something extra in your direct message

  4. Track everything

    • Aim for 15%+ response rate (my current rate is 29%)

    • A/B test different message templates

    • Monitor which profiles convert to actual meetings
